The town of Matthews is located in the southern part of Mecklenburg County about 10 miles from Charlotte. The town was first known as Stumptown. What started out years ago as a farming community has now become a very desirable place to buy real estate. Matthews is a booming community that annually hosts the Matthews Alive festival which is held over Labor Day weekend. It has a thriving downtown area that includes the Matthews Playhouse, fine restaurants and unique shopping.
