The area known as Second Ward was once home to the vibrant community of Brooklyn, which was eliminated as part of the city's urban renewal program. Second Ward, known as "the government district", is home to the courthouse, Convention Center, Mecklenburg Aquatic Center, Westin Hotel, Marshall Park and several city and county office buildings. This area will again welcome residents as new residential projects are completed. Several new developments, including EpiCentre and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, are planned and under construction.
